Animals show us so much of God’s heart
Yesterday as I was painting the barn, I put the animals in their stalls for an hour or so, to avoid them knocking me off the ladder by accident.
The goats went in the goat pen, and the pig went in her pen. I didn’t pen the cow as she couldn’t get to the side I was painting, so I figured she would go graze.
Nope!
She didn’t!
She stayed right by the other pens and mooed at me for a couple hours.
She would get close to the paint and I would have to shoo her away so her coat wasn’t suddenly bleach blonde!
I thought she would like the pasture to herself but it was quite the opposite. She missed her friends so she waited for them to be let out.
It was slightly annoying as I had to keep tending to her, but more sweet than anything as I love how she loves her odd herd!
As soon as I was done painting I let them all out, and soon after I witnessed this beautiful sight; all four of them grazing and playing together, in community.
I thought how this reminds me of God’s desires for us.
Psalm 133:1 says “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”
Unity in the community of believers is God’s will and His desire for us. He wants us to love and honor and serve and protect each other, as one big family of believers.
We all look different, worship different, have different gifts and talents and have different likes and dislikes. But, we are all called to love each other and live in unity.
I love that my crazy little herd does this. They love each other, even though they are all so different. That’s so precious to me. It’s inspiring to me. It’s God’s heart for not only my pasture of animals, but for His Bride, The Church.
What can we do today to get better at living together as a happy herd? How sweet and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.
