What does contentment mean to you?
1 Timothy 6:8 says, “If we have food and clothing we will be content.”
The early church understood true contentment. Following Christ and sharing The Good News of Jesus Christ, wasn’t a ticket to Blessingville, it was a fire ignited inside of them to move them in their calling!
Contentment was a state of mind. Paul said “food and clothing” would make them content. Truthfully because that wasn’t always a given for them. A lot of the time they went hungry, they were robbed, probably of even clothing sometimes, and they were torchured and persecuted for their faith.
So, contentment had to be a state of mind, not a state of circumstances.
I’m convicted by this.
I was thinking how content I am to just watch my animals be content.
When my cows and goats are grazing in the field, they are so peaceful and thankful for fresh grass, sunshine, and land to move and breathe on.
So am I.
I’m thankful for Jesus. I’m thankful for my guarantee of Heaven because Jesus’ blood qualified me. I’m thankful for my loved ones I have to do life with. I’m thankful for air to breath.
Contentment has nothing to do with circumstances or situations.
Contentment is a heart thing.
I’m grateful that the older I get, less things of this world and more things of the world to come, give me contentment.
Someday Jesus will be in my plain view. Just the thought of that someday makes me feel like the richest person there ever was.
Someday the Lover of Our Souls will be part of our every day! Just that thought, is so satisfying. Godliness with contentment is great gain.
